Graphs for Nerds

The Economist’s Espresso reports today the unsurprising and foreseen: total covid-19 deaths in Mexico, with a population of 126M, surpassed that of Britain, with a population of 65M. Far more interesting are deaths per million per day. Mexico and Brazil report a gradual increase to a seemingly stable plateau of approximately five deaths per million people per day, while death rates in the US, UK, Canada, and Europe spiked in April, tapered off below two per million per day, but are creeping back up in the US. If meaningful statistics informed voters and bold leaders, a delicate balance might be found between overwhelmed healthcare, wrecked economies and debased currencies.
